Backstitches Tuesday, Feb 20 2007

Here is a larger scan of the completed backstitch on the gold and some green areas of the first page (the first page is fully completed as well). I did change the whole backstitch color on gold to a darker shade. As there is no lighter shade of brown to compare conclusions might be difficult but imagine this backstitch a bit lighter and a bit more pale than it is now. I think the current variant is better. I will experiment with changing the backstitch of the flowers as well.

SBQ:

Do you like to buy “chartpacks” that include charms, buttons, and/or
beads or do you prefer to gather all materials yourself?

There are currently no chartpacks in shops over here, but even if there were I prefer to gather this stuff myself. Firstly it’s more interesting, secondly there’s a lot of places where you can hunt for various beads and charms and third, you can employ a lot of creativity and make it even nicer than initially suggested in the chart.

Rose Tree progress 2 and experiments Saturday, Feb 17 2007

There would be more progress if there was more time. Still, the colors and shades are already beginning to show. This design, if looked at each section separatedly would not seem so colorful (esp. the middle part), yet if looked at as a whole, gives a very interesting, bright, even cheerful vibe. I think the yellows and deep shades of blues are the reason for this.

I thought to maybe replace the backstitch color for yellow areas with something more darker (you can see a darker brown line at the bottom of the knot, which line is my experiment.) But I am yet undecided and will experiment further when I get to the backstitching part.

And more TW-related musings.

Rose Tree start and colors Monday, Feb 5 2007

And this is what I managed to do in 2 1/2 evenings. It goes relatively fast, considering that I lost my speed a bit after few weeks not stitching. And it *is* very pleasant to do. Maybe it is my own psychological tuning (I’ve always considered TW designs to be the best and dreamed to do them ~3 years ago) or maybe it’s the designs themselves, or both - I feel some kind of definite pleasure when stitching a TW, and this is already for a second time. Still waiting to see myself moaning and annoyed over some difficult design instead, but maybe am unconsciously chosing easier ones :P

TW stash! Friday, Feb 2 2007

It is official - I was finally able to purchase stuff from Patterns Online. Firstly I was stuck because they refused VISA Electron (now that is real shame). It took a couple more days to have hb get an electronic credit card which was safely accepted. Long live EU, we made payment methods expansion within a few weeks!  Now this is to feel like human beings. /me avoids going into political rant although me wants to.

Congratulate me? :) Indeed, I directly did a massive, shameless, money-throwing, joyful adding of several charts.

The Fortunate Traveller

This one will have to undergo some form alterations but when I get to working on it.

Knotwork Bookmarks I

Honestly I do not like the other serie II but I plan to stitch all 8 from this serie. You might want to start taking note of my promises if you so desire *g*.

next is The Minstrel

Looks very difficult and that’s why it will be stitched when yours truly accumulates enough experience. But is gorgeous nonetheless.

The queen of the day, Rose Tree in Bloom is something that has caught my attention from a long time. While I am not a huge fan of Art Noveau, I spent quite a time looking at this Rose Tree and trying to find out whether I like it or not and whether such design will fit anywhere in my house. I ended up with a big “like” and a very strong desire to stitch it. I am starting it now.

Flower Quartet

Following my new addiction I obtained this one as well. The colors could have been a bit brighter but overally is very nice. (besides this is just a photo, the finished piece might look brighter in RL). I hesitated about the Fruit Quartet, though. Maybe someday.

Hint: All wool-cross designs seem of very low difficulty and most probably will be stitched very fast and pleasant.

The one most “hesitative” is

The Princess and the Dragon. It went under the “better to have because who knows how my taste might vary in future”. This means at the moment I am not in awe but once again rule number I: we have proof whether a design looks good or not after stitching it or seeing it stitched in RL.

And that’s it. Perhaps this is just a beginning of the “Aquirement of TW stash in huge quantities.” But I am also selective as I picked only the designs I would stitch - this makes 6 out of 29 available at the site. The rest do not speak to me. Paisley Corner and Fruit Quartet are on gueue, though.

For those who might be interested to excersize their TW-holic nature, a more direct link to the designs is http://www.patternsonline.com/Designers/Designers.aspx?L=W

Fruits Thursday, Feb 1 2007

I really wanted to have them done. They seem to be the most difficult part of the design and due to my “stitching order” (from low left corner upward) I stumbled on the heap of fruits and that’s why this project started slow, even sluggish and with self-pushing. Now they’re done. The grapes were the most annoying - 1-2 stitches then color change/stare in chart/color change/stare in chart. But the result - Fruits - is worth it :)
